LANSING – The Ionia Bulldogs boys basketball team went on the road to take on the Lansing Catholic Central Cougars (LCC) in a game played, Friday, Jan. 12. The CAAC-White game was claimed by the Cougars by a score of 58-39. Ionia moves to 5-4 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.
The Bulldogs stayed with the Cougars in the first quarter, only behind by three points, closing at 11-8. The second quarter saw the Cougars more successful on offense, scoring 17, compared to Ionia's 12, to go into the half with Ionia trailing 28-20. The Bulldogs never were able to reel in a potent Cougar offense and fell 58-39. For the night Ionia struggled from the free fhrow line, going 8 of 24.
“We need to put 32 minutes together in the road against a quality opponent if we want to come out on top,” said Ionia coach Scott Swinehart after the game. “Our discipline at both ends needs to improve. It was a close game in the first half, but their mini run to end the first half put us down eight and we never got closer.”
Brady Swinehart led Ionia with 16 points, six rebounds and three steals. He was followed by David Termast, who tallied six points. Nick Szymanski finished with five points and five rebounds. Rounding out the scoring was Micah Groom with five points, Jared Christensen with four points, and Alec White with three points and three steals.
Next up for Ionia is a home contest, Friday, Jan. 19 against Eaton Rapids. Tip off is scheduled for approximately 7:30 p.m.
