— Molly Mita (@mollymita_ESPN)January 12, 2018Williamson (6-7, 272), the nation's consensus No. 2 recruit, was interviewed by ESPN's Jemele Hill and Michael Smith in Springfield, Mass in advance of the ESPN-televised HoopHall Classic at Springfield College. The Griffins face national power Chino Hills, California at 8 p.m. Saturday.
In his first game since late November after recovering from a bruised foot, Williamson scored 31 points Thursday night in an 81-72 home win over Asheville Christian. He plans to make his much-anticipated college choice Saturday, Jan. 20 at Spartanburg Day School.
Williamson has made official visits to Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Kansas; and has visited South Carolina and Clemson unofficially. Those six schools are believed to have an edge in Williamson’s recruiting, but the player himself said that isn’t necessarily the case.
“I’m going to be honest with y’all, I don’t know who released those six schools,” he said after Thursday's game. “The last time I checked my recruitment was still wide open, but I’m still considering everybody, just listening to their final messages and what they have to tell me.”
In the video below, Williamson joins Smith and Hill to discuss why it was a blessing to sit out the start of the season with a bruised foot and why certain schools may have shied away from recruiting him after learning about his injury. Smith and Hill also joke with Williamson and try to get him to reveal his college decision on the show. Williamson politely declined and said, "We'll see Jan. 20."
