The Dixie High School Flyers (12-2, 3-0) erased a 10-point first half deficit to steal a 47-45 region win over the Hurricane High School Tigers (7-5, 2-1) on Friday night.

Dixie senior guard Brody Henderson led the way with 12 points for the Flyers while junior guard Tanner Cuff backed him up with 10 points of his own.

"Brody did an incredible job on defense," said Dixie head coach Ryan Cuff. "He stepped up and hit some big shots when we needed them to help space the floor a little bit."

The Flyers were down 22-12 late in the second quarter and were down by seven at the half.

The third quarter are where Henderson and Tanner Cuff did their work as they combined to score 12 of the team's 17 points to take a 32-30 lead going into the fourth.

Both teams traded buckets and were tied at 44 with just 1:16 to play. It came down to free throws as Dixie went 3-for-4 while Hurricane went 1-for-2 in the final minute of the game.

A Hurricane three-pointer fell just short at the buzzer and Dixie held on to win.

"I'm pleased with some of the things we're doing better defensively, like being able to close out on shooters and also putting ourselves in position to keep guys in front of us," said Cuff.

Hurricane senior guard Jackson Last, who was leading the state in scoring coming into the game, carried the offensive load for the Tigers with a game-high 24 points.

"Playing against a guy like Last, he's an outstanding player and he gets guys involved too because he's so in dangerous in drawing double teams," said Cuff.

Missed free throws doomed the Tigers as they went 13-for-22 for the game.

"We've got to make our free throws, that's all it came down to," said Hurricane head coach Todd Langston. "We had nine opportunities to score that we didn't. Make those and we win the game."

Hurricane will look to bounce back against Desert Hills on Wednesday, while Dixie will take on Sky View on Monday.
