Sioux Falls Building Hot Spots For 2018

After five years of record building in Sioux Falls, city officials are predicting another strong year.

As the city of Sioux Falls grows, so do the entertainment options. The Buffalo Wild Wings that's been in the works for three years is one many people are looking forward to.

"Obviously that's under construction right now, so that's very exciting," Nick Gustafson with Bender Commercial Real Estate said.

In addition to growth in eastern Sioux Falls along East 10th Street and Arrowhead Parkway, City Planner Mike Cooper says building is hot even in these cold temperatures at Lake Lorraine.  DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse plans to open next month with home decor store Kirklands coming a few weeks after that.

"We're going to be anticipating more retail and destination buildings that will get started around the lake," Cooper said.

Last year, Sioux Falls Ford Lincoln moved to the Lake Lorraine area. That frees up its previous location along 41st Street for development.

"There's some interesting discussions that are going to happen because it's adjacent to The Empire Mall," Cooper said.

Moving to southern Sioux Falls, Walmart continues to drive more retail growth near 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue.

"I definitely think we're going to see some more announcements. That new medical facility on the northeast corner is going to be opening as well," Gustafson said.

Openings that don't look to be slowing down in 2018.

Cooper also believes the city will have a record building year in downtown Sioux Falls.

He points to several projects that will open up this year, including some retailers in Jones421, Washington Square and the new Lewis/Sanford building.
