Amidst confusion over a strategy for the next Lok Sabha by-polls to Gorakhpur and Phoolpur seats, UP Congress chief Raj Babbar would meet leaders of all frontal outfits at the party headquarters in Lucknow on Saturday.

Interestingly, Babbar will be discussing things with the same team that led the party to its lowest ever tally in Assembly elections by winning just seven seats in 2017.

Not only this, even after recent internal party polls to select new district and city chiefs along with members of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), the party was yet to declare the result or make new appointments and preferred to retain the same team till a decision was taken.

Even Raj Babbar got an extended run as State Congress chief and his meeting on Thursday with district and city chiefs remained confined to a welcome ceremony for him for the extension he got.

On Saturday too, the heads of all frontal outfits were likely to congratulate Babbar for continuing in the office instead of engaging in any serious business, particularly when Babbar himself was confused about the party’s strategy.

UPCC media spokesman Dwijendra Tripathi said that Babbar would meet leaders of all frontal outfits at UPCC office on Saturday. He said that the state chief has already taken inputs on future strategy from all district and city chiefs on Wednesday which will be presented before chiefs of frontal outfits on Saturday for discussion. Later, Babbar will brief the party brass of suggestions so that a future strategy could be drawn accordingly.

Sources said that the party cadre had made just one suggestion that the Congress brass should not repeat the mistake of going with Samajwadi Party in any future elections in the state.

On Saturday, the frontal outfit chief were likely to give the same views to Babbar, which would be subsequently conveyed to Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

On Saturday, the meeting will be attended by leaders of Minorities Cell, Women’s Cell, NSUI, Sewa Dal, Youth Congress and SC/ST Cell.

Sources said that besides other things, Babbar would also discuss on how to accord a historic welcome to Rahul Gandhi, on his first visit to Lucknow after being appointed party president, on coming Monday. Rahul will reach Amausi airport on Monday morning and proceed directly for Amethi as he would be on a two-day tour to his Parliamentary constituency.
