Raymond G. Smith, 73, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at his home in Garden City.
He was born Jan. 27, 1944, in Worthington, Minn., to Earl G. and Alice L. Sundet Smith.
A Garden City resident since 1981, Mr. Smith worked for many years for Sunflower Electric as head shift supervisor. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion, both of Garden City, and in 2015 was inducted into the Jackson Speedway Racing Hall of Fame. He had a love for car racing, shining his race cars, woodworking, and he especially loved to be involved with his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
On Jan. 15, 1966, he married Judy Gronewold in Worthington. She survives. Other survivors include four children, Sandy Foley and husband Bill Harmon of Garden City, Julia Oard of Lakin, Launa Smith of Garden City, and Eric Earl Smith and wife Daisy of Garden City; a brother, Bill Smith and wife Pat of Worthington; a sister, Mary Anderson and husband Tom of Castle Rock, Colo.; nine grandchildren, Brodrick Smith, Meranda Foley, Taylor Foley, Desmond Smith, Angelo Acosta, Jose Acosta, Kaira Acosta, Jersey Rae Smith and Alexa Smith; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
