At least nine persons were killed and 27 others injured in separate road accidents in eight districts- Madaripur, Bogra, Chuadanga, Dinajpur, Bandarban, Thakurgaon, Comilla and Jhalakati, in three days.
MADARIPUR: One man was killed and 15 injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Barisal highway at Lalpool area near Vurghata bus stand under Kalkini Upazila here on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Kazi Hafiz Uddin, 60, son of Mohiuddin Kazi, of Gopalpur Village in the upazila.
Eyewitness and locals said driver of the Dhaka-bound passenger bus from Kalkini lost its control and fell into a roadside ditch, leaving one dead on the spot and 15 injured.
Of the injured, Kamal, 35, Abu Noyeem, 32, Johirul Islam, 32, Lipi, 25, Asma, 22, Sobhan, 65, Ali Abbas, 42, Nasir Hawlader, 42, and Amirul Islam, 24, were admitted to Kalkini Upazila Health Complex.
Kalkini PS OC Kripa Shindu Bala said police and fire fighters rushed to the spot and recovered the injured from the spot.
In another incident, a retired schoolteacher was crushed under a truck on Kalikhola Road in the district town early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Sobhan Kazi, 60, of Hajirhawla Village in the upazila.
Quoting eyewitness, Madaripur Model PS OC Md Kamrul Hasan said the teacher was walking in the morning when the truck bound for Madaripur town from Tubia Village ran over him at the said area, leaving him dead on the spot.
Following the accident, local people set fire on the truck while fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the flame.
The truck driver fled from the spot.
A case was filed in this connection.
BOGRA: A man was killed and two others were injured as an ambulance hit them near a CNG filling station beside the Bogra-Rangpur highway at Gokul area under Sadar Upazila here on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Zahid Hasan Murad, 36, a construction worker and resident of Malotinagar area in Bogra town.
Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Sadar Police Station (PS) Kamruzzaman said a Rangpur-bound picnic bus from Bogra stopped at the filling station at 9am while the passengers got down from the bus. At that time, an ambulance entered the filling station. When the ambulance was getting out of the station, it dashed some passengers of the bus, leaving one dead on the spot and two injured.
Police arrested the ambulance helper Sadek, 25.
The body was sent to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
CHUADANGA: A man was killed in a road accident at Osmanpur Village in Alamdanga Upazila here on Thursday night.
Police said the accident happened when a sugarcane-laden tractor knocked down a bicycle at 8pm, leaving the bicycle rider Amriul, son of Sona Sheikh, hailing from Kushtia District, dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to morgue for an autopsy, said Alamdanga PS OC Jihad Fakhrul Alam.
DINAJPUR: A motorcyclist was killed in a road accident in front of Basherhat Brac Training Centre under Sadar Upazila here on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Mizanur Rahman Patwary, son of Md Ismail Hossen, of Kajal Village under Paltapur Union in Birganj Upazila of the district.
A speedy tractor dashed the motorcyclist at the said area at 10pm, leaving him seriously injured. Later, he died on the way to M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali PS Redwanur Rahim said the body was handed over to the family after an autopsy on Thursday noon.
An unnatural death case was filed in this connection, the OC added.
BANDARBAN: A businessman was killed as a motorcycle dashed him at Memberpara area of the town on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified as Siddik Ahmed, 62, of the area.
Sadar Police Station and eyewitness sources said the businessman was returning home at night when the motorcycle dashed him, leaving him seriously injured.
Locals rushed him to Sadar Hospital but later died on the way to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
The deceased's elder son Jasim Uddin and Sadar PS OC Golam Sarwar confirmed the incident.
THAKURGAON: An old man was crushed under a truck at Araji Chandan Haat area under Kashipur Union in Ranishankoil Upazila here on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Nurul Islam, 60, son of late Dhodo Mohammad, of Chhota Nuntor Village in the upazila.
Ranishankoil PS OC A. Mannan said a truck crushed the old man while he was riding a bicycle at the said area, leaving him dead on the spot.
Police seized the truck and took it to the PS.
The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy on Thursday.
An unnatural death case was filed in this connection.
COMILLA: A youth was killed and 10 others were injured in a road accident on Comilla-Sylhet highway at Charbakor area under Dabidwar Upazila here on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Jobayer Hasan Chowdhury, 18, son of Taslim Chowdhury in Kasba Upazila in Brahmanbaria District.
Dabidwar PS OC Mizanur Rahman said a Cox's Bazar-bound bus lost its control and skidded off the road, leaving at least 11 passengers injured.
Of the injured, Jobayer Hossain succumbed to the injuries at Comilla Medical College Hospital on Thursday.
A case was filed in this connection.
JHALAKATI: A government contractor was killed in a collision between a motorcycle and a tomtom (locally-made vehicle) on Jhalakati-Barisal road at Rayapur area in the district on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam, 45, also a local Juba League leader.
Following the accident, Abdus Salam was seriously injured. He was rushed to Barisal Medical College Hospital but later died on the way to Dhaka.
