College women's basketball: 'Dogs hand Winona State rare home loss

UMD snapped the Warriors' eight-game winning streak and became only the fifth team to win inside McCown Gym since 2014-15.

Katie Stark and Ann Simonet added 13 points apiece for the Bulldogs (10-4 overall, 7-3 NSIC), who won their third straight.

Hanna McGlone had 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Allie Pickrain had 11 points and Kayla Schaefer chipped in 10 points for Winona State (13-2, 9-2).

The game marked the collegiate debut of UMD freshman guard Chelsea Mason, who played four minutes. Mason, Northeastern Minnesota's all-time leading girls prep scorer with more than 3,000 points and a three-time News Tribune All-Area Player of the Year from Mountain Iron, initially wasn't going to go out for basketball before changing her mind. After completing the necessary paperwork, she was back on the court Friday.
