Arms supplier with Rs 1L reward on his head held

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has arrested a notorious arms supplier who was carrying a reward of Rs one lakh on his arrest. The arms supplier, Jeetu Sharma told police that he had pumped more than 250 pistols in Delhi in past five years.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) PS Kushwah said on Friday, “Jeetu Sharma was arrested from near the Indraprastha park bus stop on Outer Ring Road on January 5. Four sophisticated English Pistols of 32 bore and 50 cartridges of same caliber have been recovered from his possession.”

Sleuths of the Special Cell led by ACP Attar Singh received a tip off about the whereabouts of Jeetu Sharma. He used to regularly come to Delhi to supply arms and ammunition. Sustained efforts for close to four months eventually led to the arms supplier's arrest.

On January 5, a trap was laid near the Outer Ring road bus stop and Jeetu Sharma was nabbed.

The DCP said, “During sustained interrogation, Sharma revealed that he was part of illegal arms syndicate. He further disclosed that he has been supplying sophisticated illegal arms to criminals in Delhi and adjoining states for the past five years. Sharma told the police that he had pumped more than 250 pistols in Delhi since 2012.”

Police said that Sharma was also wanted in a case registered by Special Cell last year where the sleuths found him to be involved in supply of seven pistols. Following which, Delhi Police had kept a reward of Rs  1 lakh on his arrest.

The DCP further said, “The accused used to source arms from Madhya Pradesh and Agra. One pistol was priced at Rs 10,000 and he used to further sell these pistols for Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 per pistol”.

Jeetu Sharma has been previously involved and arrested in cases of Arms Act, Attempt to murder and robbery in Uttar Pradesh. He told police that he entered into the crime world five years ago. In 2014, he along with his associate committed a robbery in bus of UP Roadways. They looted the money bag of bus conductor. After that he came into contact with one Anil Kumar and started smuggling Arms and Ammunition, said Kushwah.
