Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will inaugurate the newly built Rajiv Chowk and Signature Tower underpasses on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway on January 20. Work on the third underpass at Iffco Chowk is expected to start soon as the authorities have sorted out the land acquisition hurdle.
With the inauguration of the underpasses at two major intersections on the Expressway, the Gurugram administration expects the residents of old and new Gurugram to commute without any hiccups from one side of the city to another.
All three projects of four-lane being constructed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) are aimed to decongest the expressway and ensure smooth traffic flow from both sides of the Old and New Gurugram.
Signature Tower, Rajiv Chowk and Iffco Chowk officials said that the entire project is estimated to cost a total of Rs 1,005 crore.
“The district was suffering from traffic issues before the BJP Government came to power. Within the three years of the tenure, the Government has carried out many projects, especially for the traffic.
These two underpasses will surely provide a smooth ride to the residents of Gurugram,” PWD Minister, Rao Narbir Singh, said.
With the opening of the Rajiv Chowk underpass, people coming from Old Gurugram will be able to proceed towards Sohna road.
Similarly, people coming from Sohna road will be able to reach the district court without being stuck in the traffic at the crossing. The Signature Tower underpass will similarly ensure smooth traffic flow from Atul Kataria Chowk to Huda City Centre.
Meanwhile, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) official said the land acquisition hurdles at the Iffco Chowk underpass has been sort out. “The department has allotted an alternative plot to the petrol pump owner. The land of the petrol pump will hand it over to the NHAI soon,” Vivek Kalia of Huda Estate Office- 2 said.
Apart from this the NHAI and the State Government are also planning to widen the service lanes of the National Highway to ease traffic congestion.
The two-lane 18 km stretches of service lane on either side of the expressway from Sirhaul to Kherki Daula would be upgraded to four lanes. At present, the service lanes on both sides are to two lanes. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has already been opened the flyover at Hero Honda Chowk on July 24, an official said.
