A Class III student was left with hearing impairment after his maths teacher reportedly slapped him in a private school in East Delhi’s Anand Vihar area. The incident took place in December last week. Family of the child claimed that police did not help them in registering an FIR. It was only when an Additional DCP rank officer intervened that an FIR was registered 20 days after the incident.
The student belonged to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category.
A senior police officer of the Shahdara district said, “Kuber Jain, a Class III student of Bhai Parmanand School in Anand Vihar told his parents that he was slapped by his teacher Surbhi Bhatia which caused him unbearable pain in the ear. His parents then took him Chacha Nehru Hospital from here he was referred to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital. Doctors have recommended a surgery.”
Confirming the incident, Nupur Prasad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) said, “A case has been registered under section 323, a non cognizable offence.”
The officer said as per the complaint filed by Kuber’s father, Sanjay Jain, “the maths teacher wrote a question on the black board. When she started asking a student to answer the question, Kuber stood up and answered it. The maths teacher then slapped Kuber for answering the question.”
Police sources said the child was already injured as his collar bone was fractured due to the beatings given by another teacher. Following which the school had instructed the teachers not to beat students.
Meanwhile, the school authorities constituted an internal committee following which the teacher was suspended.
