The Excise Department has decided to put in place a mobile App to give information to people about the actual maximum retail price details of different brands of liquor.
The development comes in the light of complaints from buyers about the difference in the prices fixed by the department and the actual market price. The App will have information about MRP of a particular brand at the click of a button to ensure that buyers know the exact MRP of that particular brand and ascertain whether the dealer is selling at prices higher than the prescribed.
Complaints over phone
The App, according to senior officials, would give a telephone number on which buyers could launch a complaint if the dealers were found to be selling the commodity at prices higher than the MRP. “The App is in trial run stage and it will be launched soon,” a senior official said.
In addition, it has also been decided to make it mandatory to display price lists of available brands at the liquor outlets. The department had decided to take circle-wise and SHO-wise details of the brands of liquor that have maximum sales in particular area so that the prices of these brands are displayed for buyers. “The display boards will be both in Telugu and English and they will have information about the prices of 20 popular brands in that particular area,” a senior official said.
