National Youth Day celebrated

Contribution of Swami Vivekananda recalled

Lectures and cultural programmes were organised by various organisations and government agencies in the city on Friday as part of ‘National Youth Day’ programme to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

In Hubballi, members of various organisations took a boat ride to reach the island in Unakal Lake where a huge statue of Swami Vivekananda has been installed. Sri Raghuviranand Swami of Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashram, Hubballi; and Sadanand Danganavar, chairman, North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), were among those who garlanded the statue of Swami Vivekananda. Senior officials of NWKRTC also paid tribute to the saint. In government offices, programmes were organised to mark the day and the contribution of Vivekananda were recalled.

At Sri Kadasiddheshwar Arts and H.S. Kotambri Science Institute, the birth anniversary was celebrated jointly by Hubballi Taluk Legal Services Committee, the Bar Association and the Department of Information.

Principal Civil Judge Mahesh Patil called on youngsters to imbibe the qualities of patience and tolerance. The event coincided with the Legal Literacy Programme.
