NBC is moving forward with its untitled medical drama set at Bellevue Hospital.
The network's third drama order of the season, and its first in the always popular medical genre, comes from writer/executive producer David Schulner, Universal Television and Pico Creek Productions.
Inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer's memoir, Twelve Patients: Life & Death at Bellevue Hospital, the hourlong centers on a maverick new director at the famous New York institution — the only hospital in the world said to be able to treat Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers Island and the president of the United States all under the same roof.
Director-actor Peter Horton, who famously helmed the pilot of ABC's Grey's Anatomy, will direct and executive produce.
The order follows supernatural pilot In Between Lives from Heyday Television and Mike Daniels' The Village.
Manheimer will also serve as a producer on the project.
Schulner is repped by UTA.
