Members of the Udupi District Muslim Paryaya Souharda Samiti took out a ‘Horekanike’ procession from Jodu Katte to the Rajangana parking space here on Friday.

Vidyadheesha Tirtha Swami of Palimar Mutt will be ascending the Paryaya Peetha at the 800-year-old Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple on January 18. It will be his second Paryaya.

Foodgrains and other items were taken in a procession of 30 mini trucks, vans and autorickshaws and later shifted to a store hall called the Ugrana at the Rajangana parking space.

The procession was preceded by the insignia of the mutt.

Haji Abubakar Parkala, president of the samiti, said that members of the samiti had served buttermilk to the devotees during the “Pura Pravesha” procession on the Court Road on January 3.

“We had distributed buttermilk during the ‘pura pravesha’ of Vishwesha Tirtha Swami and also done ‘Horekanike’ for the fifth Paryaya of the Pejawar seer, two years ago,” he said.

“Our objective is to promote harmony between communities. This should be followed in all districts of the State,” Mr. Parkala said.
