Mumbai: Central Railway introduces OCR kiosks for quick printing of tickets

Mumbai: Commuters who use a railway wallet to book a train ticket will now be able to get printouts of their tickets by directly scanning their ticket code through a new machine. This initiative has been taken by Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) for the convenience of commuters by reducing the time for purchasing a train ticket.

Central Railway has installed 24 Optical Character Reader (OCR) Kiosks at Mumbai’s stations to reduce queues at booking counters and ATVMs. CRIS will mount five new machines each at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), Ghatkopar, Thane, Dombivli and Kalyan stations on the central line. “4 OCR kiosks at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and 5 OCR Kiosks each at Ghatkopar, Thane, Dombivli and Kalyan Stations,” said Sunil Udasi, Chief Public Relation Officer, CR. Udasi added that this facility will help commuters to save time and get tickets on the move easily avoiding queue at stations. He also said there is no need of GPS connectivity for booking of tickets on mobile app and printing ticket on OCR kiosk.
