Local sports: SWR girls swamp RHS in split

RANDLEMAN — Southwestern Randolph High School varsity girls basketball coach Seth Baxter wasn’t pleased with his team’s performance in an overtime loss to Mid-Piedmont Conference foe and crosstown rival Asheboro on Tuesday. So the next night the Cougars got down to business, working on defense in practice.
Lesson learned.
Thursday, SWR romped over Randleman 65-25 in nonleague action at RHS in a split as the Tigers’ boys team topped SWR 61-37.
“Our focus and energy were there from the tip,” Baxter said. “I was disappointed in our effort on Tuesday.
Tonight, We did a great job rebounding and everyone contributed.”
Heaven Maness paced SWR (13-2) with 19 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals, while Sarah Crews added 10 points and seven boards. Jessie Ann Lanier had 10 points, and Jordan Claborn added nine points and eight rebounds.
