The body of a man found Tuesday on Fort Bragg has been identified by the Army Criminal Investigation Command as a Spring Lake teen, Fort Bragg said Friday.
Lavaughn C. Richmond, 18, was found in the early afternoon on Fire Break 12, which is near McArthur Road on the eastern side of the post, a news release said.
Richmond was last seen Dec. 31, when he left his home dressed in a T-shirt, jeans and shoes, the release said. He is a family member of a retired soldier.
An autopsy was conducted by the Armed Forces Medical Examiner, and additional test results from the autopsy are pending.
“We are awaiting additional information from the autopsy, but from all the evidence our agents have at this point, we do not suspect foul play, but have not completely ruled it out in an abundance of caution to ensure we conduct a complete and thorough investigation into the tragic death of this young man,” said Chris Grey, the spokesman for CID.
Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call the Fort Bragg CID office at 396-8777.
