1. JW Marriott raises $100,000+ for Harry Chapin
The JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort raised $120,163 for the Harry Chapin Food Bank through its #ReturnToParadise campaign relief effort.
The campaign, which started after Hurricane Irma hit Southwest Florida and ran through Dec. 31, was aimed at helping the hospitality community and the resort’s associates recover from the storm’s impact.
“We are so very grateful for this generous gift from the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort,” Richard LeBer, food bank president and CEO, said. “They have been terrific partners to the Harry Chapin Food Bank for a long time, and their commitment to our community is inspiring. Their support will make a big difference in many people’s lives.”
2. City offices closed Monday
All city offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 15 in observation of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Offices will re-open at their usual times on Tuesday.
3. Attorney Patrick Neale certified as civil mediator
Collier County attorney Patrick H. Neale is now a Florida Supreme Court Certified Civil mediator. Neale is able to assist parties in reaching a mutually-agreed upon solution as an alternative to allowing the courts to determine the outcome.
“Mediation can be an appealing option because it is typically less adversarial than litigation," he said. "It often costs less than litigation, and it generally takes much less time than a traditional lawsuit.”
