LEXINGTON, Ky.
The National Thoroughbred Racing Association is to be honored for its work in modernizing rules that allow bettors to keep more of their winnings.
The organization will receive a Special Eclipse Award at the annual Eclipse Awards on Jan. 25 at Hallandale Beach, Florida.
The award is for extraordinary service, individual achievements or contributions to thoroughbred racing.
The NTRA is a coalition of racing interests. For years, it has opposed federal income tax rules that it contends depressed pari-mutuel handle, reduced purses for horsemen and generated greater paperwork.
Eclipse Awards steering committee member Steven Crist says the NTRA "finally got it done," creating "increased handle and happier customers."
