BRIEF: SF operations center to close; 250 jobs to relocate to B-N

BLOOMINGTON — Bloomington will be absorbing some of the employees being displaced by the closure of the State Farm operations center in Tacoma, Wash.

Company officials announced Thursday the closing of the facility by the end of the year.

Approximately 1,400 employees currently are assigned to the Tacoma Operations Center, said State Farm spokeswoman Missy Dundov.

"These employees may have the opportunity to apply for other positions in other State Farm locations," she said.

Approximately 600 jobs from the Tacoma Operations Center will relocate to the company's offices in DuPont, Wash., where there already were about 1,000 employees.

While not all of the positions are being replaced, about 250 of the jobs will be moved from Tacoma to State Farm's Bloomington headquarters, and 150 jobs will go to its Phoenix office.

"Our decision to exit facilities was based on several factors such as gaining efficiency through streamlining and improving processes, adapting to the rapidly changing needs and expectations of our customers, leveraging technology, and optimizing available space in our current facilities," said Dundov.
