Naveen Patnaik on Friday asked filmmakers to make documentaries on lives of noted Odia literary figures. "Now it is time in addition to literature we must preserve and re-tell the life and times of these great litterateur. "Filmmakers should come forward to work on documentaries or even biopics, if possible on our revered literary souls," he said after inaugurating the 12th edition of International Film Festival on Art and Artists organised by
Jatin Das Centre of Arts (JDCA) here on Friday.
He further added "The journey of Odia films started in 1936 with the production of Sita Bibaha, coinciding with the creation of Odisha as a separate state and a synergy between language, literature and filmdom was started with that."
Naveen said, Odisha, the captivating region of India, is a treasure house of language, literature, art and architecture. "With a distinct tradition of painting, architecture, sculpture, handicrafts, music and dance, Odisha is really the land of art and artists," he added.
JDCA will show four major award-winning films and six films by alumni from the Film and Television Institute of India, including five works by
Nirad Mohapatra. Other works to look for include animation films from France, experimental films from Germany, Australia, Canada, and Iraq. There will also be a number of events featuring Delhi-based filmmakers, including the workshop on digital filmmaking conducted by
Nandan Saxena. Artist Bryan Mulvihill will conduct a workshop on calligraphy and actress and director
Nandita Das will give an illustrated lecture on her upcoming film, Manto.
