A man who died shortly after police arrested him and a Georgia man on drug-possession charges has been identified as 32-year-old Curtis Roeman Mangum.

Police had sworn out arrest warrants charging Mangum with possession of marijuana and cocaine with intent to sell it, police said Thursday.

Drug investigators had arrested Mangum and Dextro James White, 40, of Jonesborough, Ga., at Rose Lane and Community Drive between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Wednesday.

After being taken into custody, Mangum “began to exhibit signs of medical distress. Raleigh Police Department personnel immediately contacted EMS, who transported him to WakeMed. Several hours after arriving at WakeMed, the subject died,” a statement from police said.

White was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and keeping and maintaining a vehicle for the purposes of keeping and selling cocaine and marijuana.

Mangum was convicted in March 2015 in Wake County of firearm possession by a felon and cocaine possession with intent to sell it.

He was released from prison in January 2016.

Mangum had a felony record because of 2006 convictions for breaking and entering and attempted robbery. Felons are forbidden to have guns.

White was held in lieu of $5,000 bail after a court appearance Thursday and was scheduled for another appearance Jan. 30.
