MANSFIELD - Snow Trails is temporarily closed due to a power outage in the area of its Possum Run Road facility.
FirstEnergy is reporting 21 to 100 customers without power in Richland County due to tree damage on Possum Run Road.
Snow Trails on its website reports operations are suspended because of an area outage until 4 p.m. Friday, when the slopes will reopen; and 5 p.m., when the tubing park will reopen.
Nate Wolleson, spokesman for Snow Trails, Friday said no one was stuck on the lift when the power went out.
"It actually happened just before opening for the day. One lift operator and a snow sports instructor were on the lift at the time, however our chairlifts are equipped with auxiliary power units, which are diesel-powered to spin the lifts to unload in the event of a power outage and our lift operators followed this protocol immediately and successfully," he said.
"We’ve received word that a crew should be out working on the cause of the outage and have us back up and running soon, which will allow us to reopen today on the slopes 4 to 9:30 p.m. and the Tubing Park 5 p.m. to midnight.
