Big Bash: Glenn Maxwell responds to Australian ODI snub by taking one of the catches of the summer

Posted January 12, 2018 22:19:57

Glenn Maxwell could have been forgiven for letting his head drop after he was overlooked from Australia's ODI squad to face England, but it looks like he's more determined than ever to prove selectors wrong.

His exploits with the bat for Victoria and the Melbourne Stars have been well publicised this summer, but some fans were left questioning Maxwell's fielding after a costly dropped catch against Adelaide a few days ago.

But against the Renegades on Friday night, he quashed those concerns for good.

Maxwell was standing at a regulation point position when Renegades batsman Tim Ludeman smoked a cut shot, seemingly over the infield and towards the fence.

Somehow, Maxwell flew directly upwards, parried the ball above his head, regained his composure and completed the catch as he fell back to the turf.

Like it or not, every move Maxwell makes at the moment is being scrutinised by fans and doubters alike, but taking what may be the catch of the tournament is certainly a good way to react to the pressure.

He also belted a rapid-fire 31 off 16 balls. Kevin Pietersen was in the runs too, scoring 74 on a strong night for contentious cricketers.
