Chennai, Jan 12: TN Seshan, the former Chief Election Commissioner credited with reforming the electoral process in India, now lives with his wife at an old age home in Chennai. According to a Dainik Jagran report, Seshan and his wife Jayalakshmi live in Gurukulam Old Age Home in Chennai.

Seshan and his wife have no children who can take care of them in old age. Seshan is a disciple of Satya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi. Seshan’s health deteriorated after Satya Sai Baba’s death and he was taken to the same old age home in Chennai. Seshan left the old age home after three years and returned home. However, he recently returned to the old age home to live there with his wife.

The report says that Seshan and his wife help the other inmates of the old age home with their income (pension). This includes meeting the personal needs of inmates, giving them financial assistance and paying their medical bills. He also celebrated his 85th birthday with the inmates of the Gurukulam Old Age Home on December 15, 2017.

Seshan was awarded the Magsaysay Award for his distinguished Government Service in 1996. He is seen as one of the most bold election commissioners that India has had. His decisions as CEC helped restrict the use of muscle and money power in elections in India.
