NEW DELHI: The Congress on Friday demanded that an independent Special Investigation Team (SIT) carry out a "thorough and impartial" investigation into CBI judge
Brijgopal Loya's death.
It asked that this SIT function under the supervision of the senior-most judges of the
Supreme Court.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala expressed his party's sentiments while addressing the allegations of irregularities within the Supreme Court made by four senior judges - Justice Jasti Chelameswar, Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Madan Lokur and Justice Kurian Joseph - at a press conference earlier in the day.

One of the judges' grievances was that a public interest litigation seeking a probe into
Judge Loya's "mysterious" death was assigned to court no. 10 and not to any of the first four benches other than the CJI-led bench.

Rahul Gandhi echoed his party's statement and demanded that Judge Loya's death be "looked at from the highest levels of the Supreme Court."
"They've made a point about Judge Loya's case. It needs to be investigated properly. It needs to be looked at from the highest levels of the Supreme Court," he said.

Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case which had BJP president
Amit Shah and several police officers named as parties, died of a cardiac arrest in Nagpur on December 1, 2014.
He was in the city to attend the wedding of a colleague's daughter.
The issue came to the fore in November last year after his sister reportedly expressed doubt about the circumstances surrounding his death and its alleged link to the Sohrabuddin case.
