It's expected to hit an area from Washington State to Mississippi and the Northeast Time
The National Weather Service of Indianapolis is calling from a mixture of freezing rain and sleet, possibly mixed with snow through 8 a.m. Friday morning,
Weather conditions don't look likely to improve as the day goes with snow, possibly mixed with freezing rain is expected until 3 p.m. Snow accumulation will be the only threat after 3 p.m. with accumulations of snow sleet expected to reach 1 to 2 inches.
The Indianapolis Department of Transportation has over 800 yellow trucks on the roads with 164 in the Indianapolis region alone.
Indiana State Police Sergeant John Perrine warned drivers in the Indianapolis area to be careful on the roads and to stay home if at all possible.
Many side roads are already slick with the potential for sliding, Perrine said. Slushy roads are turning into icy roads.
Here are active incidents and concerns on interstates in the Indianapolis area as of 6:23 a.m., according to INDOT and @TraffficWise on Twitter:
- The left lane of westbound I-70 is slow near Meridian St. due to high water. Expect delays as you travel westbound on I-70 near mile 80.0.
- The right lane of southbound I-465 is closed near E. 56th St. and N. Shadleland Ave.Meridian St. due to a crash. Expect delays as you travel southbound on I-465 near mile 40.6.
Here are active incidents and concerns on other roads in the Indianapolis area as of 6:24 a.m., according to SigAlert.com:
- Accident with injury on 10th St. (west of I-65/70) at Polco St., 5:33 a.m.
Traffic lights flashing red in all directions on Meridian St. at Westfield Blvd., 5:41 a.m.
Accident on Shadeland Ave. at Washington St., 5:44 a.m.
