Liverpool open talks over Naby Keita transfer this month following Philippe Coutinho sale

LIVERPOOL have made a move to land Naby Keita this month – but they are still in the dark about how much it will cost to prise him from Red Bull Leipzig six months early.

The Reds have agreed a £57m deal with the Bundesliga club to sign the Guinea midfielder in the summer.

But after Philippe Coutinho’s £142m move to Barcelona earlier this week, Kop boss Jurgen Klopp wants to get Keita in immediately.

Liverpool hierarchy have approached Leipzig about securing a deal that could get the player to Merseyside this month.

They are aware they will need to offer the German side more money – and they are willing to do so.

But so far Leipzig have yet to indicate how much they would want.

It is understood that they are not keen on changing Keita’s departure date with the club facing a battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

But with the team already out of this European campaign, the player could push for an early move.

Liverpool are on good terms with the German club and will not do anything this month that could damage relations.

They are happy to have discussions over a fee to land Keita this month but they will step back if it is made clear that Leipzig do not want to do business until the summer.
