Scooter's Coffee, the heartland-style, commuter-friendly chain, plans a grand opening Jan. 19 for its second Springfield location. The new store is at 3265 E. Sunshine St. and is currently open.
Drinks will be $1 off, with the exception of Red Bull items, for the grand opening day.
Mike Rogers, chief operating officer of the Omaha, Nebraska-based company, said he is "humbled" by positive responses from Springfield residents after the first local store opened in October. It is at 2930 S. Campbell Ave.
The East Sunshine Street grand opening also includes a trio of giveaways:
- 10 a.m. — first 100 customers will receive a free $5 gift card with purchase
- 1 p.m. — first 50 customers will receive a free Scooter’s mug with purchase
- 4 p.m. — first 50 customers will receive a free Scooter’s T-shirt with purchase
After the grand opening, Scooter's offers half off any drink (one per customer) through its smartphone app through Feb. 4.
The app also includes a payment function and a "digital punch card" loyalty program.
The Springfield-area Scooter's stores are owned by Nixa-based entrepreneurs John and Mary Rolf, who said in a news release that they "fell in love" with the Scooter's franchise operation early on.
In November 2016, Mary Rolf told the News-Leader that she and her husband signed a franchise to bring five Scooter's Coffee stores to the Springfield area.
In that interview, Rolf said she wasn't fazed by competition from existing Springfield drive-thru coffee options such as stand-alone Starbucks stores, Dancing Mule Coffee or Panera.
"Oh, no," she said. "Absolutely not. It's going to be nice for Springfield to have another option."
Scooter’s Coffee has nearly 200 locations in 16 states, with at least 135 franchisees expecting to build new stores.
Elsewhere in Missouri, Scooter's recently opened a store in Raytown.
