The suspect in a double shooting that left a Clinton Township business owner dead and an employee at the business wounded was denied bond at his arraignment Thursday and will be incarcerated at Macomb County Jail until his case is resolved.
Jerry Daniel Motley, 25, faces five charges: first-degree premeditated murder, two counts of felony firearm, one count of assault with intent to murder, and a dangerous weapon charge.
Officials said the deceased is Thomas Edward Badke, 61, of Romeo, and his injured employee is Angelo Joseph Micale, 34, of Harrison Township.
Police said officers were dispatched at 8:42 a.m. Tuesday to the Reliable Fence company on Groesbeck Highway near 15 Mile in response to a report of a shooting.
Investigators said Motley shot the co-worker twice in the back after an argument. When co-workers attempted to take the gun away from the suspect, he shot the company's owner in the head, according to police.
Clinton Township Detective Capt. Richard Maierle said some of the seven workers present wrestled the semi-automatic handgun from the suspect, who somehow got away and sped off in his car.
At 8:46 a.m. – just four minutes later – the suspect slammed into a flatbed tow truck on Groesbeck at 14 Mile and took off on foot. Officers with the Fraser Public Safety Department arrested the suspect.
Maierle said this week it appears the initial shooting stemmed from bad feelings between the Micale and Motley and that Motley felt he had been “bullied” by the older man.
