Kandhamal has been shivering in intense cold wave conditions for over a week as the temperature dropped to almost four degree Celsius at several places, including Daringbadi, which is known as Odisha’s Kashmir.
Earlier, the district administration had awarded a work order to an agency on November 22, 2017 for supplying 5,000 blankets and full pants and shirts to the children of 35 schools under 12 blocks but till date the children have not been given the materials.
Now, the inaction of the administration has been a matter of discussion among the locals. The locals have questioned about the delay of the supply of dress materials while stating that dresses supplied after winter will of no use.
Besides demanding stringent action against the supplier, the locals have demanded that students be provided blankets and dresses at the earliest. In another development, though the administration has constructed a rest shed at the bus stand to help passengers to get rid of cold yet it has no separate room for women.
