Panic sparked on Friday morning after the TMC activists allegedly attacked the BJP party office while state party chief Dilip Ghosh and party leader Mukul Ghosh were present. A huge contingent of police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
BJP workers first stayed on Thursday night at a hotel in Jorabagan area in order to attend a bike rally arranged by the party on Friday. The TMC allegedly attacked them in their hotels injuring two activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the party.
On the wee hours of Friday, the bike rally began from the Central Avenue to Shyambazaar under the leadership of Dilip Ghosh. As the rally reached Girish Park, they were allegedly attacked by the TMC goons. Apart from six members, the attack also left the chief of the Yuva Morcha, Debjit Sarkar, injured.
Reacting strongly to the attacks, members of the Yuva Morcha began a sit-in protest at the Central Avenue. On the other hand, the TMC goons reportedly pelted stones at the BJP office. The members of the Yuva Morcha retaliated and attacked them. Roads were closed immediately and the situation worsened further when Dilip Ghosh came out of the office.
The police force, who immediately reached the spot, were unable to handle the situation. With such a prevailing situation, more police forces from the Lalbazar stepped in and brought the situation under control.
State BJP chief Dilip Ghosh lashed out at the government saying that there was no law and order in the state. He informed that the BJP members will protest in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue, for the sake of democracy. "We will inform the central government and the Governor about the attack," he added.
BJP leader Mukul Roy criticised the TMC-led government saying, "This situation never occurred in the past. I have witnessed several rulers ruling Bengal, unlike this one. I pity for the police force for their sad condition."
Roy added, "The TMC cadres attacked the workers of the BJP Yuva Morcha soon after the bike rally began. In spite of orders from the court, they attacked the rally. They did not even leave out the court officer and also ransacked his car."
Without taking the CM's name, Mukul attacked Mamata Banerjee by saying, "There is no democracy in the state. I have seen the times during Jyoti Basu and Siddharth Shankar Roy. But I have never witnessed such a period in the past."
