A few hours after police lifted Anil Swami from the fasting site in the Joint Hospital Srinagar and admitted him at Base Hospital, the Minister of State for Higher Education Dhan Singh Rawat who is also the MLA from Srinagar announced the State Government’s order to appoint four doctors in the Joint Hospital, Srinagar. Notably, this is one of three demands that the agitators are pressing the Government with. It is learnt that these four doctors include Dr Manju Rana, a child specialist and Dr Anand Singh Rana, a senior anaesthetist who have been appointed on the permanent basis till further order.
The other two are Dr Vinod Kumar, senior child specialist, and Dr Pankaj Kumar Sharma, senior anaesthetist, for 15 days.
Rawat said that the State Government is determined to house the NIT at its earmarked place in Sumadi. “Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, MP Garhwal Maj Gen Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri and the Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar have been making sincere efforts on the matter for the past eight months,” he said, adding that 50 acres of land has been found suitable for the construction by the working agency. Notably, housing NIT in Sumadi is another of the three-point charter of demands fuelling the agitation.
Rawat further said that the State Government is serious about solving the drinking water scarcity plaguing the people and said talks have been held to supply piped water to the people of Srinagar town and its adjoining areas. Notably, this is the third demand of the agitation.
