Lauding the efforts of the Indian diaspora settled in the island nation of Seychelles, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan invited members of the diaspora there to take part and invest in the Make in India initiative.
The Lok Sabha Speaker is in Victoria, Seychelles to attend Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) between January 8 and 11.
At the conference, Ms. Mahajan spoke on the key theme of strengthening Parliamentary Research for effective functioning of Legislatures. On the sidelines of the summit, Ms. Mahajan, who is leading a parliamentary delegation, was felicitated by the Indian community.
Speaking at the event, the Speaker said the Indian diaspora all over the world that is over 30 million is a powerful and energetic force. Urging them to share their skills, she reminded the audience the beginning of the Pravasi Bharatiy divas.
"In 2003, an initiative was taken by the then Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji to celebrate the achievements of Indian Diaspora on January 9 every year as it coincided with the date which marks the return of Mahatma Gandhi to India from South Africa in 1915,"she said.
The Lok Sabha Speaker also assured Seychelles that India will share its expertise in broadcasting live Parliamentary proceedings and help set up a Parliamentary museum.
