From "Monster Hunter World" and a remastered "Shadow of the Colossus" to "A Way Out" and "Far Cry 5," here are eight of the biggest and most-anticipated video game releases dated for release in January, February and March of 2018.

January 26: Monster Hunter World
The latest and most lavish attempt to broaden the "Monster Hunter" audience, already huge in Japan and on handhelds, now pursuing new fans on a home console with its heady blend of fantasy quests and exotic beasts.
On PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

February 2: Shadow of the Colossus PlayStation 4 remaster
One of PlayStation's all-time greats, first released on PS2 in 2005 and then remastered on PS3 in 2011, the pensive, expansive player-versus-eight subsequent gigantic protectors of ancient secrets looks better than ever before.
On PS4

February 9: Dragon Quest Builders Nintendo Switch edition
After "Minecraft" was acquired by Xbox-owning Microsoft, "Dragon Quest Builders" is the best hope for other console manufacturers -- PlayStation, and now Nintendo -- to compete with Microsoft's encompassing reach. Creative building and a cohesive storyline push things forward.
On Switch

February 15: Owlboy, console edition
A small-team homage to platform adventures of the early 1990s (notably "Super Mario Bros 3" and the "Kid Icarus" franchise) that, like 2017's "Cuphead," took an absolute age in development to arrive but was hailed as a faithful and polished second coming when it landed a 2016 PC release.
On PS4, XBO and Switch

March 20: Sea of Thieves
Naval and island combat with a piratical theme in which players cooperate to sail a ship in search of fights and fortune, quite likely in competition with other teams. Highly anticipated, in part thanks to its exclusivity on Microsoft's Xbox One and Windows PC platforms.
On XBO and PC

March 20: Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, international release

Protagonist and influential underworld gang member Kiryu turns amateur detective, seeking to find out what happened to his daughter and her infant child. The series received stellar reviews upon its Japanese debut.
On PS4

March 23: A Way Out
Josef Fares, who has a background in film, won several plaudits in 2013 for emotional journey "Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons". This prison breakout continues an experiment with co-operative play, where purchasing only one copy will allow two players to link up online.
On PS4, XBO and PC

March 27: Far Cry 5
Switching from a tropical island to contemporary rural Americana taken over by an apocalyptic cult leader, this fifth outing promises the usual point-to-point one-person-army, tyrant-overthrowing action with flight and furry canine sidekicks to boot.
