Continuing its sealing drive, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) has sealed 31 factories in Sadar Bazar for running commercial activities in residential area without paying conversion charges on Thursday.
A senior NMC official said the Supreme Court -appointed monitoring committee inspected the market and found that most of the factories were running commercially in flats, violating Master plan of Delhi 1962 and 2021. “The action was taken after the committee directed officials of the corporation to seal all these commercial factories by January 11.
“The commercial units were running their businesses against the sanctioned building plan. Initially, the officials faced resistance from owners of the units, forcing the authorities to call police. “The action was taken in police presence,” he said.
The civic body had also re-sealed 243 shops in Rajapuri market, near Rohini on December 28 last year, which were earlier sealed in 2007. All those shops sealed were operating on illegally constructed building on gram sabha land.
