Fire investigators from Cranston never suspected arson and found no evidence of arson following a fire on Sunday that destroyed a barn and killed numerous animals, including horses, goats and ponies, the city’s fire marshal said Thursday.
Cranston Fire Marshal Stephen MacIntosh made his comments in response to statements made by Crystal Del Deo and Erik Wagoner who both live on the farm at 765 Seven Mile Road.
“There is no indication anybody ignited this fire intentionally,” MacIntosh said. “None whatsoever.”
The cause of the fire was undetermined, said MacIntosh, who reiterated points he made previously, saying the destruction of the barn was so complete that there was little left for investigators to examine.
Late on Wednesday, Wagoner and Del Deo told The Providence Journal that Cranston fire investigators suspected arson based on evidence at the scene.
