Difference makers at the midway point
The boys ice hockey season is about halfway done, so NJ.com's reporters are pausing to take stock on the regular season's first half by doling out some midseason awards. Keep in mind that these picks can very well change by the end of the season – there's still a lot of hockey to be played! Have thoughts on our picks? Let us know in the comments section.

Mike Gurnis' pick: Mickey Burns, Don Bosco Prep, Sr.
The Vermont commit has put his offensive talents on display this season and has been a big reason for the Ironmen's unbeaten start to the year. His 35 points, which includes 11 goals and 24 assists, is tops in the always-competitive Gordon Conference. If Don Bosco Prep is going to get over the hump and win the program's first-ever Non-Public state title, Burns' play will be key.
Wall beats Roxbury in NJSIAA state ice hockey playoffs

Matt Stypulkoski's pick: Zach Tarantino, Wall, Sr.
Wall has featured a ton of firepower during its 11-0-1, but Tarantino sits atop the list of forwards. He's leading the team with 47 points, which currently ranks second in the state. The senior has tallied 19 goals to go with 28 helpers and, back in December, became the first player in Wall history to tally 100 career assists.
