Step away from the pumpkin spice and unicorn sprinkles, people.
This week, Peet’s Coffee rolled out a trio of turmeric-spiced drinks, including a Golden Caffe Latte, Golden Chai Latte and Golden Cappucino. Spiked with ginger and honey, the new beverages include turmeric, the dark yellow spice whose popularity has soared in the wake of reports about its healthful properties. As you might expect, the foam sports a brilliant sunny hue — and it’s likely to impart the same shade to your shirt, car seat or desk top, should you get sloppy with that sippy cup.
According to Peet’s CEO Dave Burwick, the “wellness-centric and coffee-forward” drinks give a nod to Peet’s founder Alfred Peet, whose original Berkeley coffee bar trafficked in more than espresso when it opened in 1966 as Peet’s Coffee, Tea and Spices.
The latte and cappucino are made with Peet’s espresso, spices and steamed milk — with cow, almond and coconut options. The chai latte uses Mighty Leaf Masala Chai and the turmeric, et al. All three drinks ($3.95-$5.60) are available through April 30.
