Negotiations continued Thursday between the Texans and representatives of Brian Gaine, who's going to be hired as their new general manager.

Gaine, Buffalo's vice president of player personnel, will replace Rick Smith once his contract is worked out.

The Texans also are negotiating an extension for coach Bill O'Brien, who has one year left on his contract.

The Texans are hoping to have Gaine signed and O'Brien extended before they leave for the Senior Bowl that's played Jan. 27 in Mobile, Ala.

Meanwhile, the Texans offered a job to coach running backs to Dallas' Gary Brown and could lose offensive assistant Pat O'Hara and quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan.

Brown, who played running back for the Oilers in the early 1990s, is trying to decide on O'Brien's offer to replace Charles London. The Cowboys are trying to keep him.

Chicago is interested in O'Hara becoming the Bears' quarterbacks coach under new head coach Matt Nagy. O'Hara has worked with the quarterbacks under O'Brien.

The Texans are waiting to see if Ryan goes to Cleveland as the Browns' offensive coordinator. He interviewed for the job Wednesday.
