VENICE — Village On The Isle broke ground Thursday on two new facilities — Emerald Terraces at Village On The Isle, and the Luke Haven Health Center — in the latest phase of its $100 million expansion.
The nonprofit continuing-care retirement community hosted two events on its campus to celebrate the milestone. Currently there are roughly 350 people living at the 35-year-old facility.
The renovation includes construction of 46 independent living residences and a health center, expanding to roughly 400 residents and 280 full- and part-time staff.
The two new Emerald Terraces residential towers feature larger units than currently available at the community.
The new Luke Haven Health Center will include 64 skilled nursing units, in addition to a therapy gym.
The project was financed in part by the Dec. 20 sale of $72 million of tax-exempt, investment-grade bonds through the Sarasota County Health Facilities Authority.
Construction is anticipated to take about 18 months.
