Locals thrashed him before arrest

A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 50-year-old constable of the Uttar Pradesh Police in Greater Noida’s Surajpur on Wednesday evening. The constable was arrested and sent to jail on Thursday, the police said.

Lures girl

Subhash Singh, who is posted at the Sales Tax Department in Gautam Budh Nagar, allegedly lured the girl, who was playing near her house, and took her to his one-room flat and raped her. The constable, who belongs to Kaithi village in U.P., lives near the victim’s house in Surajpur.

“The incident happened around 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The girl was found unconscious on the floor by the neighbours, who had gathered outside his flat after hearing her cries for help. The accused fled the spot as the locals reached his residence,” said Superintendent Of Police(Rural), Noida, Suniti.

The police said two women spotted Singh returning to his flat around 4 a.m. on Thursday and tried to nab him.

“He attacked the locals but was overpowered by a mob and thrashed for two hours. The police were informed and he was arrested,” Ms. Suniti added.

The police have registered a First Information Report against Singh on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim’s mother under Sections 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code, and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Rape confirmed

“The girl was sent to the district hospital for medical examination. The doctors confirmed that she was raped. The accused has been sent to jail,” said a senior police officer.

The girl studies at a nearby school in Surajpur and her mother works in a bakery. Her father had died long ago.
