DUBAI: A visitor implicated in mugging a man after luring him into a hotel apartment using a beautiful woman’s photo, landed in court on Jan.11.
The African man, 30, with the help of fugitive accomplices restrained the Turkish victim, mugged him and drained Dhs30,000 from his bank account on Jul.11.2017, prosecutors explained.
He denied the charge. Prosecutors demanded the Dubai Criminal Court to toughen his punishment. The jury adjourned the hearing till Jan.25 to find him a lawyer. In Al Barsha Police Station records, the defendant and his cohorts rented a hotel apartment in Tecom area. They set up a social media account in the name of a charming young lady.
They summoned the victim for a physical tryst. When the victim entered the apartment they locked the door, jumped at him and battered him. He struggled to escape. They tied him up under threats to kill him.
They coerced him into surrendering his ATM card and disclosing its PIN. They went to a machine and withdrew Dhs30,000 from his account. He sustained injuries that took days to heal.
An Emirati police captain said he found the victim languishing with facial injuries. “We rushed him to hospital,” he explained.
