Indian Islamic scholar and Tabligh-Jamaat leader Maulana Saad Kandhalvi will not attend the 53rd Biswa Ijtema to be held from January 12 to 14, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
Two factions of the Tabligh Jamaat have resolved their conflict over its Delhi-based Supreme Council member Saad Kandhalvi. Home Minister mediated between the two factions of the Tabligh Jamaat.
The Minister disclosed this after a meeting with the representatives of Tabligh-Jamaat at his office on Thursday. Saad Kandhalvi will not attend the Ijtema but will stay in Dhaka, Kamal told journalists.
Hefajat-e Islam on Thursday threatened that if Maulana Saad Kandhalvi was not sent back to India by Thursday evening, "prevailing peace and mobility on roads in Dhaka might be hampered." "A group of people are trying to ruin the peace prevailing in the country by bringing Maulana Saad to Bangladesh," Dhaka Metropolitan Hefajat Joint Member Secretary Fazlul Karim Kashemi claimed.
A faction of the Tabligh Jamaat on Wednesday blocked the busy Airport Road protesting the arrival of the religious group's top scholar Maulana Saad Kandhalvi from India to attend the Biswa Ijtema at Tongi.
Police have increased security around the Kakrail Mosque area and moved the people protesting against Maulana Saad's visit from the National Press Club to Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
Maruf Hossain Joardar Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ramna Zone said, "Tabligh members tried to enter the National Press Club around 10:0am but the police pushed them towards Baitul Mukarram National Mosque."
On the other hand, Befaqul Madarisil Arabia acting secretary general Allama Abdul Kudus directed Qawmi madrasa students to go to Kakrail Mosque and Ijtema ground to prevent Maulana Saad from joining the programme.
Office-in-Charge of Ramna Police Station Kazi Mainul said, "The situation is under control. Police have taken position in the Press Club, Kakrail and the surrounding areas."
Some of the protesters said Tabligh Jamaat members in India and Bangladesh have been opposing the visit of Maulana Saad as Darul Uloom Deoband, the movement's central seminary, has been maintaining a state of non-cooperation with him.
Maulana Saad, however,
is also a religious leader known for making controversial statements, which have caused uproar in India on several occasions.
