Schoolteacher kidnapped in Bihar

PATNA: A ransom of Rs25 lakh has been demanded for the release of a schoolteacher kidnapped in Madhubani district of Bihar, police said on Thursday.

Digambar Jha, posted at Shubhlal Dayawati Sanskrit Middle School at Mangrauna village in Andhrathi police station jurisdiction, was kidnapped late on Wednesday evening when he was returning from a local market to his home.

Madhubani Superintendent of Police Deepak Baranwal said a case of kidnapping for ransom has been lodged and police investigation launched.

According to district police official Nidhi Rani, police have conducted raids to rescue the abductee.

Family members of the school teacher were informed by police that his shoes and a bicycle were found near Gaurdh village.

“In a written police complaint, we said he was threatened with abduction in December last as well as the first week of January and ransom was demanded for his safety,” Santosh Jha, a son of the kidnapped school teacher, said.
