The Delhi Police on Thursday claimed that street crimes in Delhi has reduced by 21.05 per cent. Addressing the annual Press conference, Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik said that prevention of crime particularly street crime remained one of our top priorities in 2017.
RP Upadhyay, the Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) said, “We followed strategies like crime mapping and identification of hot spots, dynamic deployment with focus on identified areas, identification of active criminals, arrest of notorious criminals, preparation of compendium of top criminals, increased visibility of police on streets, group patrolling led by district Deputy Commissioners of Police, integrated patrolling by local police, PCR staff and traffic police, regular checking of two wheelers by local police, action against drinking in public places, action against organized crime, citizen centric policing through Jan Sampark and other community approach programmes and breaking the supply routes of Fire arms in Delhi,” he emphasized.
“Out of the two street crimes like robberies and snatchings which have declined, snatching cases came down by 12. 51 per cent in 2017.
As per the Delhi Police data, 8051 cases were reported in the city from January 1 to December 15. In the same time period in 2016, 9202 cases of snatching were reported to the Delhi Police. There were 4585 cases of robbery that were reported in 2016 while in 2017, 2833 cases were reported, indicating a 38.21 per cent decline in robbery cases,” said Special CP (Crime).
