Women to get 50% tickets in urban local bodies: Vijaya Rahatkar
In the upcoming poll for the urban local bodies, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) should give tickets to women in 50% seats, said the National President of BJP Mahila Morcha, Vijaya Rahatkar while addressing reporters at State party office on Thursday.
She said that BJP has given adequate representation to women at every level. Rahatkar said that Narendra Modi led Union Government is working dedicatedly for women development and empowerment.
The BJP leader launched a scathing attack on the Congress and other opposition parties for blocking triple talaq bill in the Upper house of parliament. She said that Congress party initially had assured its support for the bill but under its policy of Muslim appeasement backed off from its promise and blocked the bill. She said that the bill is a big achievement of the BJP government and would help in providing justice to the Muslim women.
Rahatkar said that the government has initiated Women safety and empowerment and National Nutrition Mission (NNM) schemes and the objective behind them is the women contribute towards development of the country. Under the safety and empowerment programme the union Govt has provided a sum of `3500 crores.
The national president of the Mahila Morcha said that in the NNM the Govt has taken a target to reduce malnutrition incidences from 38.4 percent to 25 percent by the year 2022. In the first phase, 42 Lakh children from 162 backward areas would be earmarked with a provision of `9000 crores.
Lauding the Modi Govt for launching Mudra scheme wherein loans worth 1.80 lakh cr were distributed, Rahatkar said out of these beneficiaries 70 % are females which will go a long way in their economic upliftment. She added that under the Ujjwala scheme 3.3 crore poor women in the country have been provided with gas cylinder. This measure has wiped the tears of the poor women folks in true sense and would ensure a healthy lifestyle to them, she added. She claimed that the Mahila Morcha of BJP made more 3 cr new members in the membership drive under which 12 crore members were made.
