AL AIN: Organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, the ‘Emirati Music Series’ returns on Jan 14 with an evening of Arab music concert marking the Year of Zayed.

Emirati artist Faisal Al Saari and Syrian singer Abood Bashir will perform, for the first time, songs inspired by the late Founding Father’s poems, with themes of both Emirati heritage and modernity.

One of the most ambitious musical projects in the region, the Emirati Music Series brings together Emirati and Middle Eastern musicians to find new ways to preserve and renew the rich vocal traditions of the UAE.

The night will also feature songs in the ‘Muwashahat’ style, an Arabic poetic form and a secular musical genre with connotations of spirituality.

The performance, as curated by Al Saari, seeks to adapt the Muwashahat style to that of an Emirati performance for the Abu Dhabi community.

The Emirati Music Series represents a core aspect of the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi’s annual Music Programme, along with Abu Dhabi Classics, Bait Al Oud and the Umsiyat series.

Together the programmes form a musical panorama allowing residents and visitors to discover traditional and contemporary music and instruments that are vital to the safeguarding of the heritage and culture of the UAE.

These performances aim to preserve the rich musical tradition of the country, and also offer a platform of musical expression for new generations.

The performance will be held at the Abu Dhabi Theatre at 8 pm on Jan 14, 2018.
