LuxGovSat, the joint venture by SES and the Luxembourg government, has announced that the GovSat-1 satellite has arrived at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (Florida) and is now scheduled to launch on board of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket at the end of January. Initially expected to go into orbit by mid-2017, GovSat's first satellite will be dedicated to multiple government-specific missions using X-band and Military Ka-band frequencies. Its security features include advanced encryption and anti-jamming capabilities, said the company.
Built by Orbital ATK, the satellite will be positioned at 21.5 degrees East and its footprint will cover Europe, the Middle East and Africa, including maritime coverage over the Mediterranean, Baltic sea, the Atlantic and Indian oceans.
